The Property
Built through use, not designed all at once.
The property sits along the Carson River, where irrigated ground meets the high desert. Over decades, roads, pastures, fences, buildings, equipment, and gathering places accumulated according to what the land and the people using it needed.
Photographing it meant looking beyond individual structures and documenting the relationships between them – the working areas, the landscape, and the ordinary details that make the property recognizable at this particular place.
The Place
A place carries the people who shaped it.
The marks left on a property aren't always architectural. They are also found in routines, repairs, objects kept in use, and the people whose lives became part of the landscape.
Photographing those details became as important as documenting the land itself.
Fifty years on the land
Some histories aren't written down.
They are lived into a place.

Alongside documenting the property as it was known and used, the project also became an opportunity to explore how the land could be presented for sale.
Aerial coverage, property films, short-form edits, and informational overlays were developed to communicate the scale, layout, access, and character of the property clearly.

The First Project
What began as documentation became the foundation.
This property became the first test of what HS Place Studio could be: not simply a record of buildings or acreage, but a way of preserving how a place is used, remembered, and understood.
The work began close to home. The approach now travels wherever the place takes it.
